The rise of artificial intelligence has allowed chatbots to become increasingly popular in recent years. ChatGPT is just one of these chatbots and has become extremely popular on social networks. The proliferation quickly led to many hackers starting to take advantage of ChatGPT to perform malicious purposes.

A recent report by Top10VPN, a company specializing in evaluating network services, conducted an in-depth analysis of applications similar to ChatGPT and came to the conclusion that many applications are unsafe and deceptive to users. Here is a list of some fake apps detected in the App Store and Google Play Store:
Android:

- ChatGPT 3: ChatGPT AI
- ChatGPT AI Writing Assistant
- Open Chat – AI Chatbot App
- Talk GPT – Talk to ChatGPT
iOS:
- Alfred – Chat with GPT 3
- Chat AI: Personal AI Assistant
- Genie – GPT AI Assistant
- Open Chat – AI Chatbot
- TalkGPT – Talk to ChatGPT
- Wisdom AI – Your AI Assistant
- Write For Me GPT AI Assistant
Top10VPN said that some apps are not clean, fake and invade privacy and steal user data. Furthermore, the platform has criticized some apps for charging expensive fees for services that are normally provided by OpenAI for free.

Top10VPN also discovered that Android apps had intrusive personal data collected through the use of third-party tracking, IP address, and device fingerprints. Meanwhile, the iOS ChatGPT fake apps collect personal data, log chat content. Some of these apps have even been found to be using OpenAI’s GPT-3 technology to charge up to $15,000 per year for access.
On February 2, the fake ChatGPT app was removed from Google Play. In early January, the App Store also removed ChatGPT and Chat GPT AI With GPT-3 software. Reportedly, they charge up to $8 for a week of use, less than $50 for a year, and have thousands of people paying to use them.
